Shaina (Corbin) Kidd
Shaina (Corbin) Kidd was born and raised in Ashland, Ohio, to Lisa and Bob Corbin. As the middle child, between her brothers Blake and Rhett, Shaina learned the values of hard work and discipline early on while helping manage the family’s horse farm. This strong foundation, combined with the unwavering support of her family and coaches, propelled Shaina to achieve remarkable success throughout her academic and athletic career.
Shaina discovered her passion for running in middle school when she joined the track team and began competing in hurdles.
Entering her freshman year of high school, Coach Gallagher encouraged her to try longer distances. She recalls coming home to her parents, expressing doubts about the switch, unsure if she would enjoy running longer distances. However, Coach Gallagher’s keen insight into her potential persuaded Shaina to embrace the challenge, transforming her athletic journey.
Shaina quickly emerged as one of the top long-distance runners in her area. She still holds Ashland High School (AHS) records in the 1600 meter (4:58.28) and as a member of the 4x400, 4x800, and 4x1600 meter relay teams. Her accolades include being named AHS Track Team MVP (2009-2011), Ohio Cardinal Conference Female Runner of the Year (2010 & 2011), and earning All-Ohio Honors (2010 & 2011). She dominated the OCC meet, winning four events for three consecutive years (2009-2011). Though she enjoyed individual events, Shaina particularly cherished the 4x800 and 4x400 relay races for their camaraderie and being the opening and closing races of the meets.
In her senior year, Shaina decided to forego her final soccer season to focus on cross country, where she excelled rapidly. In her third race, she secured first place and recorded the second fastest time in AHS history (18:33.7) for the 5K distance. Her outstanding running career earned her the title of Female Athlete of the Year in 2011.
Shaina lettered in track & field for four years, in soccer for two, and in cross country for one year during high school. She thrived on setting ambitious goals and pushing herself to lead races and beat the clock. One of her favorite memories was competing at the prestigious Mehock Relays in 2010 and 2011, foregoing her senior prom in 2011 to join the relay teams. Coach Gallagher’s mentorship was instrumental in fostering Shaina’s passion for running, which continued into her college years.
After graduating from AHS in 2011, Shaina accepted a scholarship to run cross country and track at Arizona State University (ASU). Following a redshirt freshman year, she competed in the highly competitive PAC-12 Conference, focusing on the 3k Steeplechase. Shaina achieved a career-best time of 10:34.60 in the 201S PAC-12 Championships, where she placed 9th. Her collegiate cross-country career included races at the PAC-12 Conference and NCAA DI Regionals.
Shaina’s college experience was enriched by her involvement in student leadership and faith based organizations. She served on the student board for PAC-12 student-athletes, participating in decisions on rules and regulations, and was active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). She also led FCA high school camps during the summer, inspiring younger athletes in their faith and sportsmanship. Driven by a deep passion for sharing the Gospel, Shaina embarked on a life-changing mission trip to India during a break from her junior season due to injury, igniting a lasting commitment to helping those less fortunate.
Shaina graduated from ASU in 2016 with dual degrees in Business Communication and Sports & Media Studies. She initially worked for an insurance firm and interned in college ministry at her church. In 2017, she married her best friend Garrett Kidd, and in 2019, the couple moved to Cambodia to pursue their dream of combating sex trafficking by planting house churches. During their time there, they joyfully discovered they were expecting their first child.
In 2021, Shaina and Garrett returned to Gilbert, Arizona. Today, Garrett serves as the Youth Director at their church, while Shaina is a dedicated stay-at-home mom to their three children: Henzlee (4), Blaze (2), and Taytum (1). She also participates in youth ministry with her husband when she can. Since college, she has had the opportunity to race a half marathon, as well as a IOk in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. Running remains one of Shaina’s passions, and she looks forward to participating in more races in the future, likely pushing a stroller with her little crew. Shaina is immensely grateful for the support of her parents, who attended every meet they could and traveled to the west coast to watch her compete in college. Along with her parents’ support, she is thankful for the encouragement from her husband, brothers, grandparents, in-laws, and coaches who have helped her achieve her goals and shape her into the person she is today.
