Marcus Gordon
Marcus Gordon has his older sister to thank for introducing him to the sport that would shape his life forever. It all started when Courtney brought home a flyer for the Mountie Biddy Wrestling Program and Marcus signed-up ready to body slam the Undertaker from the top rope. He was a little surprised when Coach Tim Kline started showing technique and it was nothing like Big Time Wresting!
Marcus came a long way from that first practice. Like his parents, Rusty and Marie Gordon, he was a graduate of Mapleton High School. It was as a Mountie that he became a two-time Ohio state wrestling champion. During his senior year, Gordon went undefeated (44-0) and was awarded the Most Valuable Wrestler at the Ohio State Wrestling Tournament.
He was a four-time placer at the state tournament, three-time finalist, and a two-time state champion (6th, 2nd, 1st, 1st). His name is still in the Ohio State Wrestling Record book as he sits at 10th for career take downs with 866 take downs during his four-year career. He is also 25th for most take downs in a season with 288. His overall high school career record was 188-12.
After he graduated from Mapleton, he went on to wrestle at Eastern Michigan and Ashland University where he was a two-time national qualifier. After graduating with a Bachelor of Education (Intervention Specialist) degree he would start his 16-year college coaching career. Gordon was the Head Assistant at Division II Ashland University for six years. During his time at AU, he would coach nine All-Americans, 26 National Qualifiers, and 25 DII Academic All-American’s. As the recruiting coordinator, he compiled four consecutive top five recruiting classes with the number one ranked recruiting class in 2009 in the country for Division II. After AU, he moved to DI as the head assistant coach at Bloomsburg University in Pennsylvania for three years. He was then elevated to the head coach at BU where he held that role for seven years. During his time at Bloomsburg University he coached nine national qualifiers, six academic All-Americans, and the team was ranked 8th in the country for highest GPA.
After 16 years at the college level, he has stepped away from coaching and has taken a sales job. He is married to his high school sweetheart, Jessica, and they have two sons, Nash (8) and Gus (5), who share his love of wrestling.
